Default engine mod for 77

well, the next venture on the 77 is engine mods.... i have around 1,000-1,400 to blow on it and need some opinions..... i was gonna leave the block in the car and go from there...... it's a stock small block and looking to give it some more power and torque....... give me some ideas cause my dad and i aare going to be starting soon (my dad in an old school mechanic but i still wanted some options here)......

some things i am looking for
1. pistons
2. intake
3. cam
4. pumps
5. some nice chrome kits

Don't forget heads. A lot of folks say they are one of the better bangs for the buck..

It depends on how solid the bottom end is. All the power is in the top end but the reliablilty is in the bottom end. If you don't have any rod knock or engine smoke then spend the money up top. Where up top, depends on what the plan is. If this is all your gonna spend then spend a good bit of the money reworking your existing heads, then the rest on headers, a cam, intake and carb. The key to making power is airflow. generally biggest airflow gains are achieved via the following order:

Headers
Heads
Cam
Intake

You should be able to acheive a nice gain with that kind of money. Forget the chrome....be fast first, look good second....let the ricers drive the shiney slow cars

Do a compression check and make sure your starting with a good bottom end. If that's solid and you don't want to pull the motor then get a mild cam, good heads, and performer uptop.

Cam - You need to give engine, trans. & rear gears for cam.

u think i can put a semihigh rise under the stock hood........ also, i think that i'm gonna stop the exhaust underneath the car before the diff. .... i just need to find an exhaust setup that will give it a nice sound.......
