Default Brake Pedal Pressue

POLL:

compared to the car you normally drive
(not your vette ,but relatively modern auto)

does the pressure that you have to apply to the pedal in your C3
to stop it. seem :lot more, more, same ,less

im not comparing braking power or stopping distance, ONLY
pressure you apply to the pedal

I voted a little more because I have manual brakes. If I am going fast and need to stop fast, it takes more pressure than newer vehicles with power brakes.

I haven't driven any newer cars with manual brakes, but I don't think it takes an extraordinary amount of effort to stop.

Could this be related to the amount of vaccum present?

The Vettes just require a lot of vaccum due to all the accessories being operated.

My Truck pulls 20+ but the Vette only pulls about 15 (before pulling the engine).

My pedal is harder to push than my other cars. Plus, it's a lot closer to the floor, like 1". Any i-deer how to raise the pedal on 4 wheel discs?

Normally drive a Lincoln and the Vette has manual brakes. Takes MUCH more, but I don't mind.

It takes considerably more pressure to operate the brakes on my 76 than either of my normal cars: 96 Audi, 95 Chrysler Concorde.

w/ my cam im at 14-15 in/mg

my pedal is hard, no sponge feel

new calipers,pads,and rotors

but when coming down to full stop i want to use both feet

(not really but it takes ALOT of foot pressure to stop)

I'm driving an 85 mercedes with power brakes when not driving the vette, and the vette brakes work much better and with a lot less pressure. Of course I worked on the vette brakes myself to make sure they were right and the mercedes is always getting worked on by a shop.

The analogy about the pedal being harder due to less vacuum would be valid if the engines have been modified, like a hotter cam for example. There may also be some leakage from the vacuum reservoir if the vacuum hoses are cracked or loose on their fittings.

I find vette brakes to be excellent. My vette weighs more than the mercedes, but the brakes (and power) of the vette make it feel a lot lighter.

The vette takes less pedal pressure than my 86 mercedes (power brakes on both). I have no idea how old the brakes are on the mercedes. All I've ever changed is fluid. As for other newer cars I've driven significantly, some take less pedal pressure and some much more (Jag XJS).

i rented a chrysler sebring vert for a month and when i got back in the vette it seemed the pedal was so hard i thought the booster was gone.

then as i drove more i remembered that the vette brakes take a bunch of pressure to work.

my vettes brakes take about the same effort as my 84 3/4 ton surburban.

My vette takes less pressure than all cars I've owned except the Miata. For having poor quality calipers (original non-sleeved but rebuilt), my vette is absolutely top notch at stopping. It will lock up all 4. Stops on a dime.
