Default Quadrajet Trouble

Hi all,

Does anyone know how the fast idle cam on the Quadrajet works? My chike stopped working and I discovered the fast idle cam and follower were keeping it from closing. Are these supposed to move freely? They're kinda rusty...I pried them up and the choke now closes and it starts good but doesn't stay running like it should.

Help!

You should contact forum member Lars Grimsrud. He's the resident Q-jet guru.

Just say the magic word -- Lars -- and he should show up here in a day or two at most. Be patient.

yes, the choke will rotate the fast idle cam to the fast part of the cam.
yes, the fast idle cam should be free except for the normal drag due to the choke linkage and you have to have the throttle plate open in order to move the fast idle cam.

Turn engine off, hold the throttle open, try and move the fast idle cam and it should rotate freely except for the drag from the choke

Lar's just recently published a new paper on adjusting the fast idle on Quadrajets. Try searching the forum.

For starters, it sounds like a spray can of carb linkage cleaner wouldn't hurt one little bit!
