I just re-dyed my interior in my '68 a couple months ago. I used Paragon paint and am VERY satisfied w/ the finished product. As far as prep I wiped everything down w/ paint thinner to remove the years of black magic and other protectants. It came out well, just make sure you buy all the paint from the same batch to be certain it will all match.
I believe the paints sold by most suppliers are made by the same mfg......the mfg is a friend and is located about 10 miles from me.....as noted, as long as you clean and wipe the part to be painted with paint thinner as noted on the can (no sanding), you'll get excellent results.
As the previous poster noted, buy extra so you'll have the same color batch ... and a little extra for those touch ups.
I used dye from Corvette America and it was great. The job was much easier than I thought it was going to be. Just clean parts real well, I rinsed with alcohol after cleaning, and everthing came out perfect. Use very light coats. Don't rush and you'll love the way it comes out.
By the way, I bought the dye from Willcox, it was cheaper than Corvette America sells it for, go figure!
