Default Gold Engine?

My dad and I recently purchased a 1968 327CI 300hp automatic coupe corette as my beginner car. We are plannign to do a complete restoration, although upon takign the engine out, we noticed bits of gold paint. Was this normal? It wasn't painted over because the gold paint is UNDERNEATH the orange. I was just curiosu to know the reason for it.

Hi; Don't know about the gold colour, but I have a 1968 327 also, it came out of a camaro and its orange. I completly rebuilt it and there was no sign of any other colour... Its a great motor with lots of potential, enjoy it!!!

IIRC, the 'stock' block color for the Olds engines (Rocket and otherwise) was gold...
Pontiac was blue (silver-blue or dark blue depending on the year)
Chevy was orange
Buick I think was green...

Double check to make sure that the configuration of your engine looks like other Chebby's

The gold engine was a small block 350 Olds, however anyone can paint an engine. Check the numbers and that should tell you for sure.

It could be copper head gasket sealer, it looks like gold paint. Joe
