Default 75 door handle removal

I am in the process of preping my 75 convertible for painting. I want to remove the door handles and locks, but don't want to disassemble the door any further than necessary. It is beginning to look like the latch mechanism and possibly the window have to come out to access the door lock. Can someone enlighten me as to what needs to be removed for access so I don't have to reinvent the wheel? That extra steel beam in the door makes for a tight fit!!

You will need to remove the latch assembly and the shield (have bandaids handy). Then you can get at the (2) 7/16" wrench size nuts (did I mention having bandaids handy?) that secure the handle to the door frame. You shouldn't need to remove the glass and regulator, but now would be a good time to do so and freshen everything up with cleaning and fresh grease. Better keep some disinfectant handy as well. Be careful of that regulator spring, it can really clean your clock.

Thanks. I already had the shield loose and had thought maybe I could get it out if I held my mouth right. No dice. I see now why the last person who painted the car didn't remove the handles.

I did everything but the handles and locks. Left that for the shop. The lock mechanism does have to come out.
