CFL34-

Yes media blasting will remove the rust on the windshield frame. I used to media blast cars as an apprentice at a body shop. Just like sand blasting, only a less abrassive medium. It does make short work of rust- and it will not pit the metal like sand blasting can.

Cheers!

PS- better off stripping your body with a razor blade- or make sure you have a very experienced blaster do your car. I saw a vette that was blasted by an inexperienced person and it was left in shreds - glass sticking out everywhere!

You better know what your doing if you're going to blast fiberglass, you can really do some damage real fast.

Default Here is my experience with media blasting

In 2002 I took my body in for media blasting. The price was $230. I removed the windshield but covered the rear window with paper. This was a dumb move as it didn't take long for the media to eat through the paper and shatter my rear window. The blaster said he's done several fiberglass cars. Still he managed to get a little too deep in a few spots. He replaced the window.

So... Media blasting is fast and clean, but at the same time it's more expensive than other ways, and possibly damaging. Good luck.

PS: One of my restoration books recommends not using a chemical stripper as it may ruin the finished paintjob over time.

Are you planning to do the blasting yourself? If so, keep in mind that plastic media is best for removing paint without damaging the the body stucture, but is not very good at removing rust.. sand, allum oxide and glass is best for rust, but if to much pressure and to close, or to much of a right angle, it can be devastating. I thought this little info might help, I happen to refinish landing gears at work. As for paint stripper, it is very true about the fact that it will soften fiberglass, but I beleive their is a product on the market especially made for fiberglass . Surely there is someone here who knows more than me on that matter,,, or anymatter lolollll
