You don't say what year, so here are a few things to check... blown A/C fuse on fuse panel,or the thermal fuse on compressor clutch. A system low on refrigerant will not turn on due to low pressure cut off switch. . low or high pressure switches may be bad. Switch in control panel may be bad.
Its an 80. I've checked the pressure, its got a full charge. I'm thinking its either the compressor has gone bad, or a bad switch in the control panel. Where is the switch for the compressor?
On the 1980's there is a low pressure switch that mounts to the side
of the accumlator. To see if it is the problem, take a paper clip or
a stiff wire and jump between the two terminals. If the compressor
starts then either the switch is bad or the system was low on freon.
You can change the switch without discharging the system
