Default Custom console for TKO/T-56 conversion

Just a couple of shot of the console converted to 6 speed with a Pro 5.0 shorty shifter and leather boot. I also got rid of the carpet side panels and added matching pleather. Most of the ideas came from other forum members.

Very nice! You're building a very nice machine.

What did you decide to do about sway bars?

Thanks guys - You never know how people will react to custom stuff. I tried to make it look as stock as I could, so a vette person looking in the car will never know the difference. The throw is great, only 2".

Flyinhi - I going to go to the standard 1 1/8" front and smallest back I can find. I sold the Ranchos to another forum member in San Antonio. I guess he will now be in neck of the woods carving corners.

Ditty - The swap is pretty straight forward and getting easier as more vendors start offering products. Probably in a year or two this will be a common conversion. Currently the forum has four LS1 C-3 swaps. All 6 speeds.

Did you have to put in a modified shifter? Or is the tremec a straight shot in the center of the console?

I have a 92 LT1 and ZF6 in my 77 and the shifter was bubbified with a torch to fit properly in the confines of the auto console

Something I looked at and it appears that the shifter for the ZF6 is actually a little left of center, hence the previous owners fun with the torch.

I am probably going to steer towards a 700R4 conversion anyway but I was just curious.

Great work bud!

Man, that sucker is short. I bolted my Hurst stick to the Pro 5.0 but I haven't got around to making the spacer necessary to go thru the stock shifter hole. I think it's going to work but I haven't put too much work into it yet. It's just too much fun driving the car, even if you can see the ground through the shifter hole. (I have the console in the car now but the trim plate with the heater controls, ash tray, and shifter boot is on the shelf in the garage.

Nice work Buddy.

Hey Ditty22, check out my LS1 swap page.

That is one short *** shifter, Buddy. How long of a throw does it have? Looks good in there.

I went with a stock look on mine using the original muncie shifter handle. It is a little long for my liking, but at least it looks cool.

Hey Bud, very , nice work! Did you all have to cut the tunnel to get the 6-speed to fit?

You can see how much the hole needs to be enlarged in my above pic. The tunnel didn't need any clearancing for the tranny itself, just an enlarged hole for the shifter.

I made my hole just large enough for the shifter to fit through for my t-5 swap. I am going to rivet some sheet metal over the orig hole and flatten out the orig boot then screw/bolt that over the shifter. I'll prolly get some of that heat sheild from home depot or lowes and cover the trans tunnel.

As short as it is, it shifts perfect. 2" from 1st to 2nd. And it takes all of a millasecond. If you notice the handle is backwards to except my longer arms. Turned around I was fighting it to much.

Bud,
Good decision on the sway bars. Try a 5/8" rear with poly bushings to go with the 1 1/8" front. 17" 50 series tires will put you on rails through the turns.
