1973 350 Corvette.... My old starter had one large wire terminal and two small wire terminals
New Hi-Tech CVR Gear reduction starter came with no directions! it has only one small terminal, do I just hook up the 2 small wires on the one small terminal or am I missing something here???
Only one terminal? That doesn't sound right. At a minimum you should have two: one that connects directly to the positive battery terminal lead (and is 12V at all times) and another that closes a switch to engage the starter. The second one will connect to a smaller wire that is 12V only when the key is in the "start" position.
Most starters use the starter body as a ground - no wire here. Some starter solenoids have a bottom terminal that connects to the starter motor and another side terminal that connects to the ignition coil for higher starting voltage.
Are you sure it has only one terminal? Can you post a picture?
On the new starter I have the large terminal.. I only have one small terminal. Total of 2 terminals, old starter had 3, 1 large 2 small
sorry if I'm not being clear, lack of sleap, lack of Alcohol
Big cable from the battery goes to the large terminal. Purple wire goes to the small terminal. Yellow wire is not connected with this setup. Yellow wire sends 12v to the coil while cranking. It is not essential. Nice, but not essential.
