Default Header and sidepipe installation - need help

Fellas, I need your help.

I just got a new/used set of hooker headers and sidepipes for my 68 - yes I am excited.

After getting my old pipes and manifolds off, I have several questions I need help with.

I didn't get any hardware with my set, so...

1. can I used stock gaskets or do I need to try and get a set of hooker gaskets?

2. Header bolts - where can I find some - either online or at a shop?

3 Is the alternator bracket necessary? I don't have one, and will need to order one if so - any other suggestions?

4. Dumbest one of all - what do I need, and where do I mount the sidepipes - my original pipes had a single mounting spot - these have 2, and I have no hardware - what do I need?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

For the headers? If your head manufacturer doesn't specify which gasket to use, just match up the ports on the heads with a stock type. You'll be fine.

2. Header bolts - where can I find some - either online or at a shop?
Any good shop--even pep boys, for crying out loud--ought to have SBC header bolts.

My Hookers came with an alternator bracket kind of thing. I didn't need to use it.

4. Dumbest one of all - what do I need, and where do I mount the sidepipes - my original pipes had a single mounting spot - these have 2, and I have no hardware - what do I need?

The Hooker sidepipes use 4 "T" bolts and an assortment of rubber insulators and washers and a nut on each. The "T" bolts go into the slots in your frame. You may have to extend those slots, depending on your car. But they're basically 3/8"-diameter bolts (I believe) about 3" long. The heads have been cut off and the threaded part has been welded to a flat metal plate about 2" x 3/4". So, the order is a "T" bolt, an insulator, the sidepipe tab, another insulator, a washer and then the nut. Your best bet may be to contact Hooker and let them know you'd like to get a sidepipe mounting hardware package from them. They would probably help you out.

I would give Holley Tech Service a call, 270-781-9741. Talk to a guy in tech named "Chris Reid", he is the hooker guy and should be able to send you out all of the parts, gaskets, etc. that you are short. You don't want to try to make the "T" bolts.

For Header bolts, I recomend buying stainless. Won't rust and is available from Summit Racing or Jegs.
For header gaskets, I recomend Percy's soft aluminum. Seals great, conforms to port shape, and are reusable.
