I am usually in the c4 forum but I have a Q.
I have a chance to buy a 1970 stingray t-top car with a 350 all original car.The only thing is the guy says it has a motor problem andhe doesn't know what it is.I am going to look at the car tomarrow and I will find out what the prob is.I can have this car for $3000-3500.Is it worth looking at.
if the ony problem is the motor, it's an amazing deal, imo. Just make sure you can afford a new motor if worse comes to worse. It's less of a good deal if its gonna need a full restore.
Well I have a 400 small block in my shop but I dont know what that would do to the value of the car.I can do any of the motor work.I will probably just sell the car if I get it. what would this car be worth if it was running and in good condition?
Truly all original and in excellent condition 15 - 20 grand...
Even with non-original engine and in good working condition around 10 grand. (Just my estimate).
What he said assuming good paint, no rust frame/birdcage, no extreme body mods, etc. An all there 68-72 should easily part out for way more than $3500. This one sounds like it is worth fixing.

$15-$20K if all original, excellent condition, and low milage sounds close to the mark. If it looks like it's been driven with some wear & tear here and there, then you can start deducting until you get down to the $10k mark. At that point a decent 70 should be worth that much.
Until you actually look at it and provide some feedback, it's best not to be throwing too many numbers around. It's quite easy to throw thousands of dollars into it and/or lots of time. From what I gathered on the forum, just a paint job is two to four thousand; and that is on the low end.
There are differences with the term 'all original'. To me that means it was maintained professionally using original GM parts. Everything works they way it did from the factory, or has the original little problems it had from the factory; nothing modified to enhance or improve it. The car may be original but may need service such as: shocks, bushings, brakes, etc. These are not big ticket items but things start to add up real quick.
Take a screwdriver with you and knock it on the chassis all over,
through the engine bay and under and behind the birdcage.
If the chassis is good, the body in good shape with no cracks and tears and the interior good, forget about the engine and buy the car for 3500 or less.
As a C4 owner, you would know about the detail stuff that add more value or add cost from the other point of view, so use your discretion.
...the main thing to look at is the chassis and body!!!
....engine does not seem to be a big deal, as you seem to be able to do that stuff yourself....never know, you may become lucky70 with that 400
