Default Major Hei Trouble

Alright, I bougth a rebuild kit for my HEI distributor. The high performance parts kit included advance weights and springs. Attempting to pull off the old weights and who pays me a visit? My good friend Murphy!

That's right, one of the press-in pins that the advance springs attach onto broke off. Always good to see you Murphy, but can't you visit someone else for change?

My question is, where can I buy a set of these tiny little pins that hold the weights in place and provide anchoring spots for the advance springs?

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried a Chevy dealer?

I've tried all the local parts stores but not the dealer. I don't have a good feeling on this minor part that plays a major role. I'll make a call to a chevy parts dept. but I seriously doubt they will have it.

Did you try the hardware store? Sounds like a spring pin or dowel to me. Has it got a groove in it for the spring?

I spent an hour in a hardware store with no luck. Call chevy, no luck.

There has to be someone who rebulids HEI distributors who can offer parts to service them.

Junkyard. Pull the pins from an old distributor. Or buy one for parts.

I really appreciate all the input.

I just placed an order with Summit and purchased a new distributor. I need the part asap so I'm having it overnight delivered. When I have some spare time, I'll see if I can fabricate a press-in stud for the timing springs and weights.

Thanks Murphy, I really did not need that $170.

VERY good idea. Its always good to have spare distributor parts for backup anyway. If I drive to bowling green next year I am going to take a complete extra HEI distributor along with me.

I just can't get a lucky break. I ordered a brand spanking new distributor from Summit. I coined out the extra $20 for next day delivery. Package arrived today, I "was" very happy. Brief inspection of part, net yield, a defective part. Cracked distributor housing.

Lost all confidence in Summits distributor so I coin out more money for a better distributor. Total damage now at $240. Lets see how tomorrow turns out.

Never a lucky break.
