I'm in line at the liquar store and an off duty cop stands behind me .
We shoot the crap and as we walk out he spots the radar detector on my dash and says "What do you have that thing for? Nobody in this town going to catch you."
I don't drive my Vette much but when I do I will sometimes hear someone say "Nice car." Such comments typically only come from people I know as opposed to strangers.
You see, as a black man, I sometimes think my presence threatens people, and this makes them quiet. The more typical response I get is a visual expression that says "How'd he get such a nice car?" The same holds true when I ride my Harley-Davidson Electra Glide. I'm immune to insult so none of this ever bothers me. In fact, it's quite amusing.
when iwas in high school all the guys would tellme that when i fixed it up it would be a "panty-dropper"!!! and a lot of girls would tell me i have a really hot car!! ........ and it had no paint on it!!!!!
Last time I took the vette out..had no less than 4 ppl comment on it. Had my tunes cranked up at a intersection..thought I heard some yelling..turned the tunes down and the guy to the right of me..older gentleman..was yelling "what year is that?? It sure is a clean car..told him ...81', he gave me the thumbs up! Then went through the drive through at Whataburger and the kid at the window said " sweet car! I will trade a Chocolate Milk Shake for that car! I just laughed!! Told him..I bet you would trade a shake for this car! Barely pulled outta the drive through and this older guy walking by said..that sure is a nice car! Said, thanks and smiled..
These cars sure do attract alot of attention when they are out.
Had the '72 out one Saturday afternoon top down crusing along and stopped at a light. Looked up in the rear view mirror and saw a new Mercedes convert pulling around me on the shoulder on the right, Driver pulls up even and said "What do you think the poor folks do on Saturdays?" He then pulled on up and back in front of me as the traffic moved on.
I stopped behind a guy at a stoplight. He was on a motorcycle with a full face helmet on and I couldn't even see his face. I saw him look in the mirror, and he turned around and gave me a thumbs up. That was pretty cool.
