Default replaceing ignition switch(help)

when I try to start my 69 coupe, when I turn the key all the way over all I get is the engine turning over and seems like no spark is getting to the engine but if I turn the key back a hair it fires right up, so is this problem in the key cylinder switch or the ingition swith itself? The cylinder and keys are cheap so I thought I would try it first but after taking the steering wheel off and horn assembly, I ran into what seems to be hard to get out without problems. It looks like the turnsignal and hazzard lights and telescopic assembly all together, looks like it could break easy, infact one of the small plastic buchings was already cracked, so I just put it back togther and called it quits, not knowing for sure if that was even the problem, so has anyone ran into this that may help out and make this fix easy?

It seems to me that your ignition switch is either out of adjustment or it needs to be replaced. The ignition switch is mounted on top of the steering column jacket down under the dash. You will need to drop the steering column down from the dash in order to get at the switch.

The following paper and pictures are posted on Terry Rudy's websight and should provide some very complete instructions on replacing and/or adjusting the ignition switch.

The following paper and pictures provide very complete instructions on replacing the lock cylinder. The lock cylinder is inside the steering column head (behind the lock plate and turn signal switch.)

Hope these help.

Jim gives great advice, as always. I would suggest that you get yourself a camera and take clear photos of the disassembly, especially if have never done this before. With Jim's excellent articles and some personal help, I was able to tighten up my loose tilt section but when it came time to reassemble, I found I wasn't as careful as I could have been at documenting the "fit tab A into slot B" reassembly.

Print the exploded diagrams, enlarged if you have the capability, and use them as a source for notes and comments during disassembly.

Default Hijack - tilt adjustment

Not to hijack a thread but..

How long did it take you to adjust the tilt section on the column?
I have had my column apart before for an ignition switch / indicator switch change.

Thanks,

Pete
