Default Are sidepipes virtually the same as Open Headers?

Do sidepipes run mufflers or dampeners of any sort? Or are they just basically the same as Open headers with a short straight pipe running from them?

Sorry for the noobish question.

They are a baffled or chambered exhaust system...basically like the old "purple hornies" or "cherry bombs" ie a pipe that feeds a tube with a larger diameter area filled with baffles and a "fiberglass like" filler then constricted back down to a pipe diameter (3" pipe to a 4" baffled area back to 3" pipe)

You can run them without mufflers like Oliver (GrandsportC3), with the restrictive Hooker mufflers, or with my preferred choice, JCL Spiral Baffles. Choice is up to you.

OK, I was referring the Hooker system. Previous post was probably refering to the stock sidepipes.

The factory ones actually had a long thin reverse flow muffler under the cover. Joe
