I'm finally getting rid of the home stereo speakers the prior owner had laying in the rear compartment of my 79. I went out and bought the speaker grilles as well as the mounting brackets from one of the aftermarket catalogs. I glued the small piece of carpet that goes around the grilles to the grilles. However, for the life of me I cant seem to figure out where the heck the brackets attach to. Or even which way the speakers face, are they caddy corner or do they fit all the way back flush? I cant seem to get them to fit that way. Are there any photos or diagrams anywhere? I secured the speakers themselves to the grilles but thats as far as I got. I even ordered the recommended screw set but they dont seem right either. The grilles and brackets are labeled RH and LH but I cant figure out whether Left is drivers side or passenger side! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have an 81 corvette and I just pulled mine off not too long ago. I don't know if this picture will help or not but you can see the bracket that the speaker brace should screw too. It is the rusted metal plate near the middle of the picture. Hopefully for your car doesn't look like mine does rite now
77 and earlier square back window sharks did not have speakers in the rear.
Has anyone out there used the speaker hardware from the later model vettes in one of these earlier models. I have a 77 and have been trying to figure out a good way to get some speakers back there without resorting to the big boxes everyone seems to be building.
