Muffler Advise
Need advise on short notice... received a notice from our home owners association today noting that my Vette's exhaust is too loud...
Sad given I've only driven through the neighborhood just above idle. Anyway...since we're not going to leave, I need to make a quick change from my current Flowmaster Delta 40s. What do you all recommend? I still want a deep muscle car sound just a little quieter...

What about keeping your current mufflers and mounting a waving middle finger on your dash and rear deck.........
From similar experience I have a feeling since "they" have already labeled your car as a noise problem and a small change in your exhaust----for example changing from 40's to a different "turbo style" muffler----may seem like big reduction in sound to you, but your neighbors will notice little or no difference. I still vote for the waving finger
Have you read your HOA CCR's? Who decides if a resident's muffler is "too loud"? Some old geezer who smells like Vitalis and has a permanent scowl on his face?
Read your CCR's and see what it says in black & white. If it's not in writing, they can't enforce it.
If your muffler's are street-legal, they're also legal in your HOA, barring a restriction which notes a specific decibel level.
On the other hand, if you want to be a good neighbor and keep the mouth-breathers happy, quiet it down and stay off the throttle.
You can always keep your mufflers and just add an H-pipe or X-pipe to the system. My father's 69 was loud with his headers and chambered pipes and then we added an H-pipe. It really helped reduce the overall loudness of the exhaust but still had a nice rumble.
Might not ever make them happy but if it were me I would put on a pair of Dynomax Super Turbos and add a crossover pipe. If that does not do it at least you can show that you did try. The car will be much quieter that way but still not sound like a Camry. That is about as quiet as you can get with performance sounding muffs.
-Mark.
P.S. - Where do you live? I might be able to cruise on over and do a night time drive-by a few times at say 7,000 RPM with my chambered exhaust blasting away. They will have forgotten all about you by the morning.
You can add two bullets, that's what I did and it made a big difference.
The Dynomax bullets are only $30 each and slip on the 2.5" pipe, no welding required.
I have a photo of my setup in my gallery if you're interessted...
