The '68 project car recently purchased has a locking gas cap, but the previous owner misplaced the key. Is there any trick to getting it off? Or do I need to call a lock smith?
i had a similar problem happen to me, when i was stripping and painting my car. I lost the key to the locking gas cap..I freaked out, but i found an old key laying around, and jammed it in the cap, and it turned. Might not work for some, but it lucked out for me.
If there is ANY gas in the tank be carefull using metal tools.. They can cause a spark. Sparks make gas go BOOM. For the same reason don't use a cutting torch
