Well it is time to replace the rusty core support. Anyone have hands-on experience with this? My car is a 1969 small block, air conditioned. I was hoping I could take out the core support, radiator and condensor all as one unit. What do you think? Tom
I've not actually done this job. Just some things I have thought about.
1) Core support holds the front of the nose up. You'd want to be sure to carefully support the nose so that it won't stress crack when you take the core-support out.
2) You would have to disconnect the a/c lines of course.
3) It would help to have the hood off.
4) I think it would be easier to remove the radiator separately.

I was at a friend's house last weekend and he was parting out a '77. When i got there, this is exactly what he was doing (with the help of an apprentice) Yea the front clip did come loose. Yea it took them quite a while (an hour after I got there, and they had a big head start). And mind you this was a parts car that had no motor in it.
I took mine out when I had the radiator recored... it's almost a requirement to take the hood off - it's best to remove the radiator first, then unhook the AC lines. I don't recall the core support holding up the nose.... I didn't support the nose and had no issues - I even climbed in the engine bay on numerous occasions <detailing while block was out>. Mine is a 74 so it may be a little different. I tried putting the entire unit in as one, but the AC condensor didn't play well with the core support/radiator/shroud all put together. Had to put the condensor on after the rest was installed. PITA...
I've done this job three times...once on a 77,and twice on my 72. I had the hood off once, and on twice. Of coarse it's way easier with the hood off...but not necessary. Supporting the body nose is also not necessary cause it's still connected to the forward frame rails. Drain/unbolt etc..all lines hoses etc. The easiest way I found is to first remove the fan, then unbolt the shroud. Slide the shroud rearward. Now unbolt the support with rad & condens attached. Tilt it forward some and out comes the shroud. You can pull the rad & condense seperatly....or the whole shooting match with help.
