Default Perf increases w/MSD style systems

What are they? My stroker has been dyno tuned with the factory HEI ignition system (accel coil though) and I've been tossing around the idea of installing the MSD Pro Billet design, or Crane's version.

My stroker is healthy but fairly mild ... what kind of bennies am I gonna get and is it worth the effort over the standard HEI?

5-15hp probably...that would require a fairly beef ignition setup. The hardcore MSN Pro Billet, Digital 6, HVC II coil, Wire, Plug type setups are usually for high compression, high output motors. They need the double spark and high voltage to ensure full burn. Smaller motors will benefit just the same from increased combustion efficiency and thus youll get better power, reving, and mileage.

Thanks. What I'm running is a 10:1 383, but with cast iron heads. Pocket porting and Stainless 1.94 valves /// cam is Comp Cams 270 duration with .492 lift but with 1.6 roller rockers. 795CFM Edlebrock Qjet on a Performer manifold that has been port matched to the heads. The heads are my setup's bottleneck. I have true duals with magnaflow mufflers and Hedman hedders.

In that case Id spend the $$ to have the heads CNC ported...or just go get em match ported...either way youll free up hella more HP than a new spark curve.

I'll have to agree there, for the money you will get more bang for the buck in doing other mods such as porting the heads. The MSD ignition is a good ignition and will spark reliably higher than stock HEI but for mild buildup that sees 5500RPM you get will 0, nada nothing zippo.....ask me how I know

Some say you will get a better idle, gas milage etc. but that stuff does nothing for me

Probably nothing. Standard GM HEI systems are very good, especially with a Accel coil and can easily handle 550+ HP.

I doubt you would see any HP benefit over the HEI unless you turn more RPM. The HEI as delivered is supposed to begin to drop sparks at around 4800 RPM if I remeber right. Not much of a deal for mild motors but might need a little upgrade if you want to spin it.
