Hear her roar! Got it started.
I got her started last night for the first time and good God is that thing loud with open headers...As some of you predicted a few days ago, the timing was indeed 180 degrees off. After that was remedied, she started gurgling during cranking, then after a few more times it was a beautiful, monstrous, earth-rattling purr. Three of my neighbors came out to see what was shaking the building.
So what should my first order of business be with tuning the new engine? I'm guessing I should first set the idle mixture, then replace the plugs, set the dwell, timing, and tune the carb. I installed an air/fuel gauge with an oxygen sensor in the driver header collector, so hopefully that will make things easier.
Thank again for all the help - can't wait to get it on the road!
Dave
I did the same thing to a '67 Jeep once. crank crank crank crank crank with the occasional *pop* out of the carb ... my dad walks out, takes one look at the engine, smacks me in the back of my head and says, "turn the damned distributor around dumbazz!"
Anywho, glad to hear you got her fired up!
