hey twin turbo, you seem to be somewhat of an authority on corvette differentials. lost mine to a sheared pinion gear a couple weeks ago. it punched a couple holes in the case but looks like it might be relatively easy to repair. what's your take on repairing these diffs? someone else i've spoken to believe that the force of the gear being jammed against the case can distort it badly enough that the ring and pinion can never be aligned. any thoughts?
here's what it looks like. there are a couple small cracks coming off the holes punched in it but the webbing doesn't appear to be damaged.

I agree with the other guy, these cased grow & shrink with temperature and are not really strong, the force of what happened to yours will be more than enough to distort it, alSO you will not be able to see all the micro fractures that exist inside the case now, rebuilding it with the remote chance of being able to set up the gears properly after stretching the case would be a waste of money if the complete pinion section breaks out, I've had it happen, basically I lost the section from where your 2 holes are all the way to the pinion. Since you now need a new differential, may I suggest you get a D44 from a C4, mod the mounting ears on the frame and build a pinion mount from scratch, using a stock pre 80 pinion mount as a basis. You can do it

As for being an authority on these differentials, not by a long shot All that I know I learned from ram82fire, he knows way more about these things than I do. He just tought me how to set them up properly

thanks, your still more of an authority than me. my second question was whether fitting a c4 dana 44 would be a workable option but looks like you were ahead of me on that one too. jim (PROSOUTH) has a replacement c3 dana on its way to me. in the meantime, i will keep my eyes peeled for a c4 dana.
