Default Drag racing BFG Radial TAs!?!?!

I'm finally heading to the track tomorrow to see what the LS1 will do. However, with too much power and too little traction, I don't expect 11s or anything like that. I would like to be able to get some traction, so what should I do with my BFG Radial TAs to get them to somewhat hook? Lower pressure? How low?

Two years ago (the last time I went to the track) the car ran a 14.7 @ 95.5mph. It should run a little stronger this time.

(Fevre: We should be getting to Milan about 5:30-6:00pm. Give me a call on my cell sometime during the day if you want to meet up with us. It's a private track rental, so there will be plenty of time for all the runs you could want.)

Anyone want to take bets on time/mph? (~3000pounds and 360rwhp)

It all depends on the temperature and gearing.. If you can get your 60' mark in the low to mid 1.60's - you could get close to 11's... My car is ~3000 lbs +215 lbs driver and I have 365 RWHP.. I ran 11.67 with only 5 HP more than you have... so you should be able to get into the 11's depending on your 60' time..
If you get the 60' time into the mid 1.60's - I'd say 11.98 @ 116 mph.
If you won't get the 60' times below 1.85 - you should end up running 12.30 - 12.50 @ 114 mph..

I got confused by the title.. With Drag Radials - you could get into 11's but not on TA's.. The best 60' time that I got on Radial TA's was 1.836 and the second best was 1.840... on a good track...
The best possible tire pressure on BFG Radial TA's was around 18 - 20 psi...

I run mine with BFG Radial TA's. I get my best 60 foot times with about 28 to 30 psi pressure. That pressure gives me a full foot print. Less pressure unloads the center of the tire and my spin patch is darker at the outside edges. I come off of the line at 1200 RPM while slipping the clutch and rolling into the throttle. I am producing 494 ft lbs at the rear wheels so full throtle in 1st gear depends on track conditions. I usually see 2.0 second 60' times. My best 60' with the TA's is 1.94 sec. Good luck at the track.

12.5 at 110. Your going to have some traction problems.

wow! 3000 lbs is really light! 360 rwhp is plenty! Even with the BFGs you should be "capable" of mid to low 12s... but you may find it difficult to get into the 12s at all. I will guess 12.7 and expect a post about what size drag radials you should buy!!

Sounds like you guys will have a ball.
Good luck hooking up.
I was always under the impression that less pressure was better,
but apparently I have very little experience. I was thinking like 10-15 psi.

About the only way you will get traction with radial T/A's and that kind of power is to remove them and put some drag radials in their place.

I'll put my guess in for 12.75@114mph with a 2.1 60 foot time.

true... but if you live close to the Bradenton track - you can get 1.80's 60' times with street tires... They put tons of VHT on the track every Test & Tune night...

Cant wait to see your times. Did you weigh your car, or are you guessing the weight?
Far away tracks suck though. Bradenton track is an hour away from you isnt it GS?

It wasn't a great night. The first shakedown run went ok. 2.2 60', 14.4 @ 96. Faster than the car ever went before and that was only 3/4 throttle, shifting ~5500 and a very easy launch. Second run, 2.1 60', shift at 6k, first, second, third, passing my buddy's Mustang on the second half of the track, fourth, back on the gas 3/4 of the way down the track.... no gas pedal.... revs falling.... speed falling.... damn! The nut on the end of the throttle cable fell off the cable so it wouldn't pull the throttle body open. I ran a 13.62 @ 94. When I shifted to 4th I was doing ~105, so it was a pretty good run if it would have held together.

Now the second problem... Pushing the car back to the paddock, I ran over my foot with the rear tire. I don't think it's broken, but my heel is purple and it hurts like a b**ch. If it's still bad tomorrow, I'm going to go to the ER. Oh well. At least that time was a full second better than my friends with their Mustangs, 2.5 seconds faster than another friend's Lotus Elise, and 3 better than the last friend's SVT Focus.

For anyone who knows who he is, John Colletti was there with some SVT guys and a new Ford GT. Colleti wasn't fast in it but one of his guys ran an 11.99 in it.

Fast time of the night was a guy in a ProStock car that ran 6.8 @ somewhere around 160. He only ran once and I think he was asked not to run again.

So, that's my story. Thanks for your interest.

The most important question, was it your gas foot? Got to have the go fast foot.
Not to shabby. Any 1/8 mile times on the second past. Might be able to calculate it that way.

No, it was the clutch foot. I never thought about the 1/8th mile... 8.900 @ 83mph.

I forgot to mention that I rigged the throttle cable to work to get me home. It was good enough but I didn't want to risk losing the only nut and bolt that I had in the toolbox making another pass.

Lostpatrolman: 3000# was my guess without me in it. The scales weren't open so I couldn't weigh it tonight. It could be even less, I won't know until I can find a scale.

scooter, why were your runs at 3/4 throttle? Was that nut on the throttle cable not letting the tb open all the way up?
