I had a 177 blower and Edelbrock Performer 800cfm carb on my stock 1975 L48 motor, the blower improved the performance of the stock L48 alot and it ran better from idle all the way up.
So I dropped in a standard GM longblock and bolted the blower and carb back on. It idles good, but as soon as I try to drive away in first gear, the carb is spitting back and I have to rev the motor more and give it more gas or it will die. Is the gas pooling in the secondary cavities and on the top of the blower normal? See attached pics:
Thanks for any advice!
I also have an Edelbrock 800 carb, & have used Edelbrocks for years. Gas puddles in the locations shown in your pictures when the float level is out of adjustment allowing the fuel to overflow. Set your float drop as recommended in your owners instruction manual. Also, make sure there are no leaks from the gasket or at the accelerator pump plunger when re-assembling.
Excellent, thanks for the advice, that didnt look normal. I wonder why it did that, that is a new carb I bought a month ago. I didnt drop it or bang it around, I guess its just one of those things that happens.
Was the carb jetted for a blower application? If not, the primary metering system (vacuum operated fuel metering rods) will not work correctly. It normally senses vacuum in the manifold, but since your on top of a blower, it will not meter correctly. Unless of course, the carb was set up for a blower application.
Ideally, you want a boost indexed carb. On Holleys, they modify the carb to get the power valve signal from the manifold, below the blower, instead of the carb base, above the blower.

The carb is not modified for the blower, I hear what you are saying. I have read the standard power valved Holleys dont work at all on blowers unless modified. But the weird thing here is the this carb worked find on the old motor with blower, now it is doing this. Maybe the old motor was different someway since it was worn out. I may try a quadrajet. Thanks for the advice.
