Default Custom Dash

I am thinking of making a custon dash and console but I don't have a clue about where to start, what material etc.
So, if the forum brain trust would kindly repond, I would be most thankful.

Mid America offers 2 wood grains and a carbon fiber...full kit for every part of your interior...Im going the Carbon Fiber route myself...I like the comment it makes on the fusion of classics and technology.

You do realize those are nothing more than fancy stickers, don't you?

To create a custom dash you are going to need to learn how to mold fiberglass, bondo, woods, metals and plastics into the shapes you desire.

A good place to start would be to remove your current dash and gut a piece of cardboard to match the curveture of the dash at the base of the windshield. Transfer that to a stiffer material, such as wood. Then mount that to the tabs and start figuring out what you want the dash to look like.

Default umm

i'm sorta suck in between a crazy custom fiberglass dash/console or just trickin' out my original components.... you can wrap your dash and trim and door in materials i.e. tweed/suede/velvet..... that would be the easiest.... just spray the fabric and panel with super 90 spray adhesive and stick and get the bubbles out......start from one end and spray little by little this way you don't screw yourself.......

It is really a lot easier than you would think. And based on the amount of plans you have for your car, you got plenty of time for it.

Hell, if you got a jigsaw, and a plastic bucket to mix resins in, you are good to go. The only other tools you need are a paint brush to paint the resin on, a pair of scissors to cut the fiberglass mat and a pair of pantyhose to stretch out and form the base of your fiberglass dash.. After that it is just sanding and smothing until you get the shape you want. Metals are only needed if you really want to dress it up.

Ya...taking a 120% course load at the most prestigeous university in Canada is definitely something I can sluff off and go sit in the storage unit 30 miles away and F*ck around with fiberglass all do...I mean use your head kiddol...who said Im the one doing the work? Look dude, I KNOW what youre saying and I can respect that having had a fiberglass sub enclosure built, you can do it with not a lot of difficulty, but sometimes it IS too difficult for people.

It's only difficult because you've never done it or seen it done.

Slipped that edit in on me. Too busy is a whole nother story. I understand that. I'm trying to bring my car back to life between the hours of 10 and 12 each night. Makes engine work hard with open headers. I can't start the car because it will wake everyone up.

Im not going to beat this around anymore...

I HAVE seen it done thanks, I just said that...anyhow....this is pointless and not helping anyone at the moment. I say if you wanna fiberglass yourself, go for it. Have fun with it and learn your craft well, itll save you hella cash in the long run!! Just not my thing.

You may be taking courses at the most prestigeous university but may I suggest you take some courses in etiquette and respect? This forum is now swamped in your stupid comments and obvious lack of respect for people much older and much more experienced than you. You talk as if you have done it all, been there done that when in fact you are as green as grass and your stupid comments show it. Apart from that your posts are laden with cursing words, asterix symbols for editing or the forum censorship. Grow up or leave man, I am getting really ticked off by your posts and I know I am not the only one. Your childish level is not appreciated here, at least not by me.

Let me refer to these stupid comments:
Told ya you could do it kiddo...now go get drunk, clean the car, and sleep inside of it tomorrow.
A comment directed to someone older than you that probably has more experience building engines also.

Obviously the reason for all those garbage posts. Who cares how many post you have, 2 contributing posts are appreciated way over 500 rubbish posts that are nothing more than a waste of disk space.

Jpatrick636. I made my dash by using the factory top. Removing the front face pieces, I believe there are 3 .Then you can get alum sheeting ,cut it to the front face you want . Now cut out your holes for how you want your guagesand then you can glue on leather/ vinyl in the color you want. Mine works great for what I needed and I lost over 30lbs.Twin Turbo can you put a pic up that I sent you that shows the dash/rollbar. TT thankyou from all of us I agree.

I made a cardboard template for the tach spedo area, and the gauge area, and the shift console, brought it to a water jet company and had brushed stainless steel cut out, screwd it to existing dash components with pan head ss screws, looks really cool with all the other chrome components on my car.

There is an excellent book named "Custom Auto Interiors" by Don Taylor and Ron Mangus that covers this topic well. I think I got mine at Amazon.

Woooo! I didn't want to start a war!

I'm looking for a completely different dash and console, so "Custom Auto Interiors" by Don Taylor and Ron Mangus sounds like the place to start.
It sounds like my main choices will be wood, aluminium or fiberglass. I have worked a lot with wood and metal but not fiberglass. However, I am game for anything, so what choice would you guys make and why? I think I want the finished product to be covered in leather or vinyl.

Thank you all for your imput.
