Just finished installing a alum Rad and electric fan. Well I took the vette out for a ride to see some friends we are all standing around watching one of the guys weld up a trailer when One of the guys said I smell el. smoke. We turn around to see Light smoke coming from under the hood of the vette. 
Quickly I pop the hood and we see one of the wires going to the starter shorted out and had just started to burn a spark plug wire. A Fast run to the hose and it was out before any major damage. Man was I lucky. Looks like I will be installing the new El. engine harness that has been sitting on the shelf.

I hope you disconnected the battery cables too!!
The heat can travel along those wires and cause distant short circuits, I believe.....happened to me before!
Go and do a thorough inspection of all the wires!
