Default C-3 Tach's

Hey everybody I am new here. Here is my first post. I have had a question on my mind for a while. In my 1971 I have put electronic MSD ignition into it, along with the 6PAL box. I would really love to use the stock tach, or a stock looking one. I was wondering if anybody knows of a conversion kit or stock looking replacement for me. Thanks, I really do not like the one I have mounted to the steering.

it a common mod to get an electronic tach from a 1975 or 1976 Corvette, and retrofit it to older C3's. Actually it is a direct fit, but many prefer to contine using the original face from their older mechanical tach... so they transfer it over.

Just did this on my wifes 1973.

I know exactly what your talking about, I just bought a crate motor that came with a MSD pro billet distributer with no mechanical drive for my 71's tach. The tachs from 75 and on are electric, so I just bought a speedo and tach from a guy on the forum from his 76. I believe that the cosmetic differnces from 71 to 76 will be slight. I bought the speedo and tach because I wanted at least the two sitting next to each other to be identical.

Since the dashes are different, will the 75-76 tachs slide right in or is there cutting and grinding to do?

Thanks for the welcome.

The 71 to 76 dash pads are nearlly identical. The only difference is with or w/o ac. The 75-77 tach would be a perfect fit.

yes, those tachs will fit fine, you can even swap your face plate onto them to make it look all original. If you really want to keep the mechanical tach, you can buy an msd distributor that has a tach drive built in. They are pretty expensive though.

Welcome to the insanity!

A 75-76 tach will directly bolt into your 71. The difference in the faceplate is mainly color of the numbers and perhaps the redline. Either retrofit your current faceplate onto the later tach, or also get a later model speedo faceplate so the two match.

From 75 on, the speedo has MPH and KPH markings on the face, FWIW.

Good Luck!
