Well , I put my car away for another winter. Because of lack of space I have to park it longways in the back of the garage. I like pulling my truck inside during the winter. I cant wait to have a larger garage. I was wondering besides taking the battery out.what else should I do to winterize it ? What do you guys do ? Do most of you keep them running over the winter ?
I too am getting ready to put the 81 away for the winter. I just remove the battery and fog the engine. This has worked fine for the 7 years that I have owned the vette. I keep the vette in a shed and keep some old blankets over it during the winter. Think spring!

I do basicly the same thing as you. I fog the engine with a 1:5 mixture of Marvel Mystery Oil and gasoline. I use a battery tender and a car cover. After four winters it always starts right up..I have never had a problem. That's what the boat and snowmobile guys do. I have been told that you don't want to jack them up. It can cause the frame to flex and the body to distort. I don't know...I'm no expert. I rely on the people who know more than me...think about it and then decide if it makes sense.
Marvel mystery oil and stable, disconnect the battery. I also put dryer sheets inside, I read that mice don't like the smell and stay away not sure if it works but the car smells good when you open it up in the spring.
I also Fill gas tank. Fogging is when you mix the marvel with gas or using straight marvel and pour it into the carb (with engine running) until you get a good amout of smoke out the exhaust (at least thats what we called fogging) the idea is that marvel lubes the upper end of the engine and keeps everything well lubed. I just take the car to the gas station fill her up, put in the recomended amounts of marvel and stable in and take the long way home.
Fogging-in oil is a speciality product used for storing outboard motors for extended periods of time. It keeps the piston rings free; particularly critical in two-stroke engines where carbon build-up can be excessive. The oil can be found at a marine supply store.
My corvette, spent all summer on blocks, unfortunatley, and now it is finished and runs, and I must drive it for the winter, when the weather is nice of course. At least it wont overheat!

This is my first winter as well and I really appreciate all the input & advice here to make sure us rookies do it right. Mine is going into an off-site indoor storage not far from home. In addition to the above steps/ procedures/precautions, should I make occasional visits to check on everything and/or fire it up for a few minutes? Or, with engine fogging, is it just best to leave well enough alone for the winter? Anything else like tire pressure? Thanks!
