how about a vacuum operated pop up tach that reveals it self when you start the engine??? i think there was a muscle car that had a vent system for the air cleaner that opened via engine vacuum. that would be way cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it would be like a C3 version of a heads up display.

I have a small MSD shift light that I wanted to mount under there. When I got it, I saw it wasn't as easy as I thunk and proceeded to fix the tach instead.
Or so I thunk at the time.
With a new circuitboard, new filter and many hours of frustration, my tach works now but is wayyYYYYYY off! so I may just go in there and put that shift light in place after all.
I have a 2 1/16 oil pressure gauge under my L88 hood. With the hood down it's invisible from outside the car but it's just out of my direct field of view so I can see it easily from the driver's seat. I would imagine that a small tach would work the same if you had a high rise hood.
you can buy them at yearone and a couple other places for under $250. thought of doing it on the aftermarket hood on my 65. lots of wire but i think itwould look good.
DAMN!!!! so far the only ones I can find say PONTIAC or FORD on the face ( Looks like the Torino's had them too)!
Plan "B" is to use my 1973 dist. to run the tach.... and use an MSD or Crane cams box to fire the coil off the crank sensor in my 1999 Vortec engine
Yeah my borther had that tach on his Firebird. Personally always thought that was sort of garous (red neck) there is a hole on your dash for a tach, use that spot.
The Phase III Motion Vettes used the Pontiac hood tach on their cars. I'm sure they probably repainted the face removing the Pontiac label.
As for me, I will be mounting a shift light under the rear facing scoop on my L88 hood. Out of sight to all but the driver and passenger. Should be clearly visible when 7K comes up in the blink of an eye.
