Yes that is correct. I would look at two plug wires interchanged. This would explain the popping at cruise. Engine would have a rough idle but may be hard to tell. I would look at the 6 and 8 cylinders interchanged. Good luck
I will check those ASAP.
Any other suggestions?
While I am looking at those and replacing plugs anthing else I should be checking?
Joe
Hello,
I did not have time to take out the spark plugs and replace them or check the wires to assure that they are all correct, but on the way home I was thinking about my ignition system. In the system I have a coil, high voltage, from pertronix and it is the only part of the system that is not MSD. When I installed it, the intall kit used an adaptor that seems very loose. This has always been on the car, so I am not sure if it is causing or contrubuting to the problem.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Joe

I doubt it would cause a bank to bank diff like you have, but you also might have more than one problem causing the diff in exh temps and the backfire. Easy to check the plug wires 18436572, just did it about 10 times on my Formula this past week. Originally Posted by 68coupe

what do you mean by this "Easy to check the plug wires 18436572"
what does that number mean???
The other thing is that I do not really know what I am looking for. the light not to blink when it is on a given wire? A difference in light blinking speed? I am not sure what to look for or what it means??
thanks,
Joe
Yup, just follow the plug wires from the cap to the plug, I had a couple off myself so I kept checking until I was able to get the eng to run right just to be safe and give me something to do will I wondered what the problem was.
Just in case here is the cyl configuation:
2 4 6 8
Front of eng / back of eng
1 3 5 7

Thanks alot for your help.
By "I had a couple off" do you mean that the wire went to the wrong cylinder or that the wore was not connected to the plug???
Thanks,
Joe

Exploreremember the timing light only tells you if the spark plug wire is good it does not tell you if its hooked up the correct spark plug.
