Default Pics of Another (mostly) assembled engine

This is the 383 I have been slowly aquiring parts for and assembling over the last few months.
I finally got the heads bolted onto it last night. Hopefully I will be able to finish the assembly this evening.

Specs are:
4 bolt main, one peice rear seal block
4340, nitrided, internal balanced forged crank.
Forged H-beam rods
Forged Probe pistons
Comp Cams XR-270 hyd roller cam
AFR 195 heads with 68cc chambers (10.2-1 CR with my pistons)
Weiand Action plus intake (trying to keep stock cowl induction air cleaner)
Weiand Team G water pump
2100 stall torque converter

Today the brown truck brought my new wiring harnesses and a few other odds and ends that will go under the hood with the new engine.
Just waiting on Jet Hot to deliver the Hooker sidepipes and header now.
Planning to pull the L-48 this coming weekend and take a week or so to detail the engine compartment before dropping in the 383.

This is starting to get exciting!

Well, because of the cam and intake I don't think it's going to be nearly as "beasty" as it could be but I 95% of the driving I do is just cruising so I wanted a "street friendly beast".

I am sure it will be more than enough to improve my "smiles per miles" though

Thanks for the comments.

Any predictions on output of the complete motor?

The engine looks great. I've been watching the forum for quite sometime concerning the fit of aluminum heads with hooker sidepipes. Let us know how everything goes together. I hope you don't have to dimple those new Jet-hot coated header tubes.

I know, I know...... But I really like the L-82 valve covers that came attached to my lethargic L-48, and aluminum roller rockers will not fit under them. The Comp Cams roller tips don't look all that bad. They will be in the dark most of their lives anyway so I didn't feel that the cost of both roller rockers, poly-locks, and new valve covers justified the minor reduction in valve train friction.

Over the years I have read many posts in the C3 forum regarding sidemount headers and AFR heads. While there have been many people who have reported that the conbination is "not supposed to work", I have yet to find anyone who said that they actually tried the combination and it did not work. I got the most encouragement from reading this post: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...oker+sidemount
Apparently the only trouble SmokedTires had with his AFR 210's (which have the ex ports raised even higher than the 195's) was related to the angled plugs. My heads have straight plugs.
I'm not too concerned about everything fitting together, I will simply deal with the problems as they arise.

I have yet to find any dyno numbers on my exact combination, but with a little (possibly wishful) interpolation [sp] I think it is releatively safe to expect around 415hp and about 420 ft/lbs torque (at the flywheel) with peak power somewhere between 4000-4500 rpm.
I know my Turbo 400 tranny will eat up a bunch of that power before it hits the ground, but I am hoping for around 300hp at the wheels. We'll know for sure within a few weeks.

Kevin,

Looks good.

It's a tight fit dropping the engine in with the fuel pump on if you don't remove the hood. I had to take mine off and then re-install it in the bay.

I also had to remove the WP to remove and install the radiator and shroud.

I think I even had to loosen the motor mounts too.

I've got a load leveler if you need it.

Tim,

I was planning to remove the hood for the swap, I didn't think it was even possible to pull the engine out of a C3 without removing the hood.

The water pump is not really bolted on yet, I just stuck it on there for the pics. Since both the alternator bracket and the AC compressor brackets are attached by the water pump bolts I was planning to wait until the engine is installed to bolt all that stuff up.

A load leveler would be GREAT, I will most likely take you up on that offer!

BTW, does anyone in the dallas area have a harmonic damper installation tool I could borrow for an hour or two?? I haven't been able to find one for rental in my area, and with all the money I have spent so far on this project I am starting to have reservations about spending another $50+ on a tool that I (hopefully) will only use once on this engine.

I have L82 valve covers, and they SEEM to fit ok on one side, the other side is hitting on the stud screws only. I haven't fully lashed them down, so it might still be ok. I read somewhere, someone used two gaskets per side, and they fit ok.
