center console/armrest removal

center console/armrest removal

Trying to remove the console/armrest. You know the piece that goes around the e brake and holds the armrest and power window swithches. I removed the four screws from the sides but she won't budge. Is there something else holding it on? maybe in the back under the carpeting?

Lou,

There's another bolt in the rear, that can be reached by removing the storage box. One of those things that make you think... "what the hell were they thinking?!"

the storage box you are referring to is the center compatment I am guessing?

Actually I removed the passenger side box, as (at least on the 74) it is easier to remove (just pull it).

What year is the car? There are different set-ups on certain year cars.

They could have used a steel dowel pin and not bothered with the bolt, it is darn hard to get to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

while your in there-(famous last words) do you have the light that goes on when you open the storage compartment? reason i ask is- while i was removing that bolt in the center compartment that holds on the brake console i noticed a wiring jack laying down there,, thats when i found out there is a light you can get (comes assembled with the switch and the bulb)- i used a unibit to get the hole the right size to accept the switch/light..
