Need some advice, folks. I would like to get my '72 vert off my "regular" policy and get a "classic" policy. I have heard that some companies have mileage/usage limitations and would like to avoid them if possible. Please let me know about which companies you all have used, what restrictions apply and how the company was to deal with.
Thanks!
If you want a collecter policy you will probably have to give in to some of their rules. Mine allows 3K miles and I can't use it for a daily driver. Can't leave it in a "Wal Mart" styl parking lot. Never had to make a claim but I have had the same company for 15 years. They were just bought by INA. No problems so far.
Check out Hagerty in Traverse City, MI. I have used them for 6 years and good people to work with. They are flexible on the yearly mileage estimating that most classic car owners would drive around 5000 miles per year. However, if you decided to take your car to an "event", that mileage would not be counted against your yearly total, even if you had to drive across country. They require that the car be kept in a locked garage. The rates are good. I have $35000 agreed value, live in Florida-high insurance rates-and it cost me $297.00 this year.
The thing about Hagerty is you must own more cars than there are drivers in your household. That is how they determine if your classic is a daily driver.
BTW, they did not ask me about miles per year or anything like that.
Most importantly, is Hagerty's claim service. Both of my claims with Hagerty were settled without any dispute, and my premiums did not increase. Fast, courteous, professional, and they go out of their way to settle fairly. Great company.
My only advice is to make sure you read the fine print and make sure you are ok with the restrictions. All classic insurance will have restrictions, or it wouldn't be nearly as cheap.
My car is currently under a regular insurance policy as I like to drive it to work on occasion.
I have Condon and Skelley, a division of Met Life. Mine is $350/yr with $25k agreed value. 2500 mi/yr mileage restriction, however they do not have an attendence policy and I can drive it to work occasionally. They ask for mileage at renewall time.

Exactly the experience I've had. Just signed with Hagerty's. No mileage limit discussed but did have to send info on my other two daily drivers. $13000 agreed value for $130/yr.

You just have to own other vehicles? Not actually insure them with Hagertys? If this is the case, no problem. I have a daily driver and a back-up.

Yes that is correct!
During the application process one of the things they ask for is the front page of your "regular" policy which shows all your cars and all the drivers. Sounds as if you have enough vehicles.

I use State Farm. I set my value at 15000. I used that so if my car is totaled an adjuster doesn't determine the value. It cost 140.00 per year and I have a 2000 mile limit on it.
