Quadjet developed gas leak at inlet where gas filter resides. Tightened a few times & now is stripped so bad I had to use JB weld to hold it in place. Its a temp fix until I either replace it or repair it right. Is there a fix for the stripped thread in the carb body or is it time to move on. I'm thinking edelbrock 1406. Carb was rebuilt by Lars about 2 years ago. Ran very well.
Self Tape? This plug was so loose that I could push it in & pull it out . Thats how bad it is stripped. I don't think that they make heli coil large enough for this fix.
Lars does a repair for the Q-jets with the 7/8" thread but doesn't do the later 1" x 20 threads. I've got the same problem with my '81 (1" thead) & a company called Recoil (from Aussie?) make thread repair kits for this size, listed under specials/carbs. If it's a later carb the thread is 1" x 20 tpi. I haven't got the kit (coz it looks expensive!) but have several of their smaller ones & they work a treat.
Not sure if a helicoil type fix will do the job on the 1" inlets as it depends on where the seal is made (bottom of fitting, the thread itself or the top shoulder). Maybe Lars will post with an answer? If you've got the earlier size then Lars has a jig, etc needed to do a decent repair.
