Mine has been very reliable... Only left me stranded once with a bad rear wheel bearing (wheel was tilted 30 degrees ) and I also had a broken valve spring once (car was driveable - so I had it fixed immediately and didn't get stranded). Other than that - 22k trouble free miles
I consider my '72 vette very reliable. I have had the car for 4 1/2 years now and have replace numerous parts, but I would drive it anywhere in good weather. The car is 32 years old, so things are going to break!!! It doesn't have a/c so it's not as pleasant to drive in hot weather.
tallking about how reliable your vette is - that's a sure way to end up on a rollback!!!
I ran out of gas once.
Blew the clutch once, but still managed to drive home clutchless.
Couldn't start it once and road home on the flatbed, but that was really my fault for not figuring out the battery wasn't hooked up properly.
I am often amazed at how well my vette runs after sitting for 2 weeks.. I have maintained it and tuned it and it runs MUCH better than when I bought it 5 years ago.

I would not be scared to take mine anywhere. Two weeks ago we went on a cruise with our vette club to Pinnacle Point in Kentucky. The trip started off on the interstate for about the first 40 miles and we were hitting 80-90MPH to keep up with the new C5's. My vette wasn't even breathing hard. The whole trip up to KY and back home was over 250 miles. Not one hint of a problem.
I've only had my '71 coupe for 6 months now but have never had any problems with starting/handling/driveability. I do wish it had a bit more umph (I've the base 270HP) but I'm working on that. Lingenfelter has some good ideas, don't you think?
i've had my 79 since 96 and at first i wouldn't drive it out of town, but since i have rebuilt the suspension, bearings, brakes, differential, engine and put in a 700r4, it's been very reliable. i completed the above work in 2000, so the for the last 4 years, i'm driving it more than wrenching on it, 83k when i bought it, 102k on it now
My 79 has never left me stranded. I don't drive it very much, but, ususally when it leaves the garage we end up driving 200 - 300 miles before we make it back home. It does have some weird sounds that causes my wife to give me the evil glance, but, nothing serious. I wouldn't hesitate to head on a long trip other than the gas mileage.
Hot Rod just posted the route for next year's Power Tour and I am going to try to make at least 3 days wtih that group.
My vette runs like a champ, I'll drive my vette anywhere..................within 100 miles radius (thats all AAA covers) .....Maybe I meant to say runs like a chimp ( not a champ).
After getting rid of most all of the 26 year old hoses, belts, etc. , my 79 is very reliable. Went from NW OH to Southern KY last weekend to visit my folks without problems...Had a blast and got lots of wave on I-75.
Owned my 75 for about 18 months now and except for some basic maintenance, it hasn't had any issues. Of course it helped that the last owner spend a fair amount of $$$ fixing the brakes, radiator & support, along with a few other issues.
