Does anyone have this coating on their headers? Most people seem to go for the 'silver' sterling finish, but Jet-Hot also offer matte black. I don't like a lot of chrome under the hood, and I actually think the black finish would be cool. Any feedback? Pics?
I went with the "extra high temp" black coating on the headers for my 82 when I had them done in 2000. I seem to have a mixture problem with the last cylinders on both sides and the tube would glow a dull red if I held the rpm at 1500 to 2000 rpm for any length of time. Jet Hot told me that their "silver" coating definatly would NOT hold up under these conditions. 4 years and 27,000 miles later, they STILL look like they were just done. Be aware that THIS coating leaves a rough texture finish to the headers and is a flat (not glossy) finish.
I had my Hooker headers and side tubes coated black from High Performance coatings for my 69 BB vert. The general color scheme of the car is red and black so that is why I went black.
So far they have held up just fine.
I have some pics if interested.
I will e-mail them to you guys.
I have not posted any pics for a long time and could not find the instructions on how to do it on the new forum.
There on the way
I have it on my HOOKER sidepipes I purchased used from "Lotahp" here on the Forum. I since had the headers redone with the higher temp black from JETHOT. It is a very rough surface coating, not smooth like the other but very effective. The side tubes still have the original coating but I have painted over it a couple of times for appearance sake.
