Other Car Question

Driving to work in the rain, my 86 non turbo, 5 speed 300ZX died. It was running better than it ever had, I shifted from 4th to 5th, and there was nothing. I pressed the pedal and no response in any gear.
I pulled off the side of the road and tried to restart several times and it would not start. After 10 mins or so, it finally started but kept trying to shut back off. I was close to home and brought it back to my house.
I worked on later the same day and was able to start it but it ran very roughly. Two days later, today, I cannot get it to start at all.
I checked the obvious problems - distributor, plug wires, etc. But I now suspect it could be the fuel pump?
What does your experience say?
Thank you!
