I hesitate to use the words "good and cheap" in the same sentence, but my 81 looks pretty bad outside, a modest paint job could only be an inprovement. I would be happy enough if it lasted a year or so at this point. BTW, I am not selling it, ever, so its just for me.
Are there any "as seen on TV" paint shops that would do a Vette for about $500. There are plenty in the $1500+ range, but I am just a poor old boy looking for a shine.
Mine was originally black and the previous owner decided he wants it red... he did not have the money or just didn't want to spend the money for a good paint job... I wish he never had it painted.
He told me where it was painted and said he only spend 800. I went to that shop to get the correct paint code and some paint for touch ups.
They had signs like "basic package for $199" , "supreme for $299" ... I wonder if that includes cleaning the car before they spray the paint on...or tape ???
It's unbelievable how much overspray they got everywhere. I had to clean the valve covers and mufflers with paint stripper to get all the red spray off.
Stay away from these places that offer complete paint jobs for less than 1500 - you will regret it !
When it comes to paint, you get what you pay for for the most part. A lot of the cost comes from prep and a good prep job can be expensive. If you want a good job and save money, you can always do most of the prep yourself and then go and get it painted.

Any help?
Thanks.
nitrusmr2 got his done at a maaco, it about the best looking under-1000 job I've seen (~$850).
I've had a Maaco type paint job on a Camaro and it was absolutely awful. It was possibly the worst paint job I've ever seen. I have a buddy that has a '69 Camaro painted at the same place and the car is absolutely gorgeous, but it's a show car and is always in a garage. He talked to the guy that actually painted it and he wet sanded and polished it for a couple hundred bucks on the side.
THe cheapie places have decent paint and equipment. The key is in the prep. If I was going to go that way, I'd take most of the interior out, put on cheap valve covers and air cleaner, remove all the emblems lights and lens, and have it as clean as possible. Then you might come out OK. I have a 3/4 ton truck that was painted by a local cheapie place and it looks OK 8 years later. Painted the whole thing plus chemical stripped the front for $550 (with $150 coupon from the newspaper). I took everything off before they got it.
My car was originally beige, but somewhere it became a "custom" dark metalic green that so far no one can match. After all the color matching money I have spent over the ten or so years I have had it, I am ready for basic black. I have at least three versions of this dark green on my car, repainted from parking lot hits over the years. Under this killer Florida sun, even the newest repaint has bubbles and cracks. The oldest paint has parts of the beige bleeding and showing again. It is a daily driver too which doesn't help either.
The interior will be redone soon, but I have to get the paint done first as everyone would expect.
I guess no one had any luck with a Corvette paint job under $1000?
You didn't say that it was already re-painted. I guess the best you can do is to strip and/or sand all the green paint off yourself. If you prep it yourself you will be able to get a nice paintjob done for $1000.
I had a friend who did some body work for me on a 69 camero, You wouldn't believe how this older fella could pull and work metal, a little heat a hammer a back stop, magic. Any way , I wax poetic, He used to say the paint job ain't in the paint its in the tape and paper...LOL
So I figgure anyone can spray paint, Hek I've done that myself, Its the finish work that takes the time and energy, so if you'll do that your self , let them spray it cheep.
