My 80 is at a body shop where a good friend of mine works. They'll do a total repaint for $3500 and I've seen their work, it will be top quality. So I'm thinking that's a no-brainer.
However the rear bumper has spider cracks around the tail lights and the spoiler is bigtime rippled across the top. No real way to fix the ripple and it's likely the cost of repairing spider cracks, etc would equal the replacement cost. So I'm looking at replacing that piece. Eckler's has 3 options - fibreglass, flex-fit fibreglass and urethane. Experiences, recommendations?
I've got an ACI fiberglass unit- looks excellent & good fit. No complaints. Only issue is if you get hit, it'll probably need repair/replacement quicker than a urethane unit.
this is a choice you need to make!
1. everyday driver? urethane
2. garage kept? fiberglass
3. I'm not sure about the flex fit.
decide on what the car will be used for,
then figure what bumpers will be good for you.
She's a weekend cruiser only and will be garage kept... soon as I buy a garage!
My buddy is keeping it garaged for the winter for me and when in my possession she's always kept under a cover. Hoping I will have a garage for her next winter.
ACI? Where does one get their hands on that, can't recall hearing that name before.
Thanks for the info folks!

Reason: Adding a question.
I'm also looking at replacing front and back to to many large cracks in the urethane. I would probably go urethane but I would like to know how the cracks happened. Could it be from the extreme cold up here?
I have a flex-fit front bumper and love it. You should get one because the body shop can contour it like a pure fiberglass one to make it fit perfectly. Plus you lose all those waves across the rear that are evident in your photo. Go flex-fit and you will love it!

ACI is American Custom Industries. They've been around for quite a while. Their website is www.acivette.com . Website says they just had a fire but are still carrying on business.
