hey guys have you guys heard of pimp my ride show on mtv? well i was thinking of sumbitting a request so they can help my car out what do you guys think??
Hello,
I have watched that show. If it is the one with Xhibit as the host, then I would not do it. But that is my opinion for my car. On this show they add blenders in the glove box, waterfalls in the back seat, turntables in the trunk, music mixers on the console, etc. Its not something that I would do for my car.
But then, maybe you are a DJ, and those items sound great. If thats the scenario...then you should do it.
I would never do it to anything like a vette or a car I care much about. It looks as if they do things quickly(maybe properly, also) and they never touch the drivetrain or engine compartment from what I've seen. I'd do it for like a boat or van.. but never a vette
Too bad TunerTransformer only works on rice, they spend huge dough to gain 50 hp, what a crock. Spends that $ on a muscle car and then you got something.

Totally agree

I wouldn't turn down my car showing up on "Pimp My Ride". Well, the 78 wouldn't make it, but the 80 might. A fresh paint job, new interior, new wheels... maybe even a capucinno maker. Anything I don't like I can change and potentially sell. It'd be hard for me to keep a straight face when they lift the covers on my car though...
yeah youre right on the blender and stuff, but i was thinking it would save me a bundle on body work and interior, and i can sell all that extra stuff they put in like blenders, dryers, etc. i'll keep the stereo and tvs if any. The reason i was thinking of doing it is because im needing money for paramedic school and will have $0.00 for the vette, it nedds touch ups of glass and paint and interior. Mechanically its is just fine, another thing i can do is to sell the most likely ugly rims they'll put on it and buy TTIIs!

do it!!!!!!!!! the only bad thing that could happen is you hate it and then you sell it for way more then its worth now and you start all over again. we may not like the "pimp" aspect but tehy do quality work and lots of people do like it so selling it should be no problem....
I would never get my Vette pimped. The 70 Caddy convertable Yea probably...but your right. They slap together those cars and I bet they buzzz and rattle right out the door. Watched them repar an old VW last night and that thing had rust holes you could put your hand through and the pop rivited and bondoed....That was all I needed to see.
i wouldn't let pimp my ride touch it. They do lousey work imo. Its all about slapping on some new ghetto rims, and video in the headrest. screw that, not to mention, i've never ever seen them touch the motor or tranny etc.
now overhaulin....i'd go for that. they actually touch the motor
I think everyone here would rather have Overhaulin' do the work but what do you have to loose. You'll get a new paint job, interior and sound system. An easy 10K off your back. Just tell them how you want it so they don't really screw up the paint job with some crazy colors. After you get the car back sell some of the sterio stuff and buy some drivetrain parts.
I've seen pimp my ride before and they do engine work once in awhile. The one episode I saw, they gave the kid a new one b/c his was such a POS.
I doubt the paint jobs are that high quality. One episode I saw the painted the car and they had an underbody shot of the car and they didnt paint the last few inches of the body underneath. It was still the original color of the car. The interior guy isnt too bad at what he does but sometimes he uses some ugly color combos and material.
I've heard about some bad paintjobs on pimp my ride. Personally, I wouldn't let them do it to my car. Overhaulin' maybe, I've only seen one show but I was impressed by what I saw.
Did you actually look at the work they did, to me it appeared very shoddy with hiffen sections getting only a bit of spray or nothing at all, the body work done on several cars was a huge bondo fest. The only thing I wouldn't mind is that ish dude doing the interior if done in a fashion that fits the car (so no diamond plate stuff & diamond plate printed seats)
I wouldn't let any one of those shows touch my Corvette. Especially "Pimp my ride". I saw an episode the other day where they took a non-BMW and put a new bumper and grill on it to make it look like a BMW. Then they removed the rear passenger seat and put a sound system in its place. They made, what looked to me, to be the dumbest mistake ever by adding screens to the back of the headrests. Screens in the headrests but no back seat?!?!
I expected them to have some sort of solution but then they moved on to the rest of the car where they put recording equipment into the car so that the girl who owned it could record herself sing. They didn't touch the motor or the tranny. So you end up with a gimmick car like the silly vettes we've seen on ebay around here that no one will buy.
I may be wrong but I don't think any of those shows let you ask what you want done with the car. They just go at it. I don't see a single positive reason for letting them work on your vehicle. Except to meet XZIBIT. X to the Z y'all.
I saw that Pimp my Ride program where they took a Ford Escort and turned it into a BMW 3 series. They put on the grill, and the correct tail lights.
Now here is the problem I saw. They put the TV monitors in the headrest, but then removed the back seat to put in stereo equipment. Soooooo.....whats the purpose of the TV monitors then if you dont have a back seat.
