I am thinking about painting by intake manifold and my valve covers glossy black, has anyone done this? Any suggestions? I want something unique, but not too flashy.
Hello,
Hmmm...painting it glossy black never occured to me. In fact, that might be pretty neat. That and either some chrome accents, or some anodized parts, but you have to be consistent with what the additions would be.
I think it has to be glossy to let you wipe down the engine, grease, oil etc. If it was flat paint, then I dont think it can be wiped down and cleaned off.
When I bought my 79 it had rusty chrome edelbrock valve covers. I cleaned them up and hit them with Rustoleum flat black (the can was laying around). Looks fine now. When I get my digital camera for X-mas, I'll be posting pictures. The flat paint doesn't seem to show the dust as much as a glossy paint job.

Hmmn ...i don't know about that....black really does attract and retain heat...usually we want the intake manifold to be as cool as possible once we hit normal operating temperature.... just put a black t-shirt on and go out side in the summer to see what i mean. I don't think the valve covers covers would make a difference.... just a thought....
Thanks for the advice. Right now I have a Performer manifold (came with car, don't know how old), and it needs to be removed and cleaned. Since I am blasting my valve covers, I figured I might as well get done all in one shot. I'll post pics when it's done... it'll be a while
