The lower section is a piece of cake. The upper section is a little tougher because you have to release the clip behind the speedo. Suggest removing the driver's seat to allow easier access from underneath.

Depends on a couple things.
A: do you have cruise control?
If you do, you actually have 2 cables. One from the transmission to the "transducer", the cruise control module. Then another from the transducer to the back of the speedometer.
If not, you have one long cable from transmission to speedometer.
Disconnecting it from the transmission is not too bad. Getting the connection on the back of the speedo is a pain in the ****.
What is the problem you are having, and do you have cruise or not?
75's have a 2 piece cable and were never available with factory cruise. If it does have cruise, it's aftermarket. The 2 cables couple to each other near the lower part of the firewall. Replacement cables from aftermarket companies may be made in one piece however.
If you could seperate the 2 cables at the center connection and get some cable lube in there it might help. Certainly can't hurt. You can get cable lube at any auto parts store. You will want to hold the upper cable high enough so the lube will work it's way in. The lower cable won't be a problem getting lube to take.
i changed the upper and lower on my 73,last mth,, took about a hour, there,s a clip on the back of the speedo to have to lift to get the cable to release- when you put the new one in the back of the speedo it will push and snap in place- e/z er to get the new one in than get the old one out!!- also make sure that the lower seats inside the gear right in the trans-mine didnt work the first time i put it in and i used a battery drill to determine which 1/2 wasnt working, it was the lower i didnt have it in the gear all the way----carl
