I just finished my first project on my "76 L-48. I replaced the stock carb with an Edelbrock 1406, keeping the stock intake manifold. I used the throttle bracket from Summit but when I fired it up last night I had a small leak from around the forward bolt holding down the throttle bracket. I'm not sure if the bolt hole leads into the water jacket for the intake or if I tightened it too much and cracked the intake. I didn't torque too hard on the bolts for the throttle bracket but I am new at this and may have messed something up without knowing it.
I searched other threads but didn't se this question anywhere else
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks - Mark
I can't say I had this problem, but my guess would be poor sealing of the intake gasket. Did you use any gasket seal? Some people do, some don't. Also suggest you check for coolant in the engine oil. You might resolve this by RTVing the threads. But for peace of mind I would pull the intake to check for cracks, and if ok install with a new quality gasket set and gasket seal. Only a couple of hours work to make sure all is well.
I just re-read your original post. If I read you correctly, you did not pull the intake, only replaced the carb. If that is the case,I would RTV the threads but watch the engine oil very carefully for signs of water contamination. I do not think the intake bolts hit a water jacket, but could be wrong.
