Default Hood alignment bumper placement

I'm trying to install the little rubber bumpers along the fender rail (under the hood) and I don't have a clue where the original ones were located. The AIM is no help. Does anyone have a car with these in their original locations? I assume the location is the same for '74-'79's because they are the same part number but who knows. My car is a '78 so I would like measurements off a similar year. if you are wondering what they look like...

and here is the link to Eckler's http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...3BB53DECC27RM4

Measurements would be appreciated. Thanks.

There should be two on each side. What I did was simply place them on the rail(without removing the tape protector) and then move them around until my hood was flush to the fenders. Once I was happy with alignment, then I removed the tape protector. I am not near my vette right now, but I recall one set stood on end at about the halfway mark, and the next set were close to the latches and laying flat. Just move them around until flush, each vette is different and the manual would only be a rough guide.

They pretty much go where they're needed. The first ones from the front are usually about even with the carb wingnut, any further forward and the space on the rails is too low and they don't conntact the hood. From the one lined up at the wingnut, they go as needed to contact the hood. Put them in without adhesive in various places and close the hood to check the height. You can also grind them down if necessary to fine tune an area. All of my Vettes(78,78,79) have 2 per side, except one which has 3 on one side, 2 of them 2 inches apart(?). Make sure you don't put too much pressure near the windshield location and bind the latches.
Don't know how to post pics but I could email some if necessary.

The fit on these cars was so bad that they needed those things to warp the fenders and hoods to match each other. They were litterally put where needed. There is no correct place. Some cars had none some had several.

Ok, I thought there where specific locations they needed to go. I guess it's trial and error. You guys have given me a good place to start. Thanks for the help.

Sline78, I couldn't find it in the AIM anywhere. I could spend hours looking through it just for entertainment but I looked where they were talking about weather striping as well as front panel installation and alignment and didn't see anything.

burners,

My 78 AIM shows them on UPC 11D sheet 4. Same diagram as the hinges and hood support.

Shows the first standing on edge 7.00" back from hood hinge and the other flat 25.12" back from hinge on each side. Says an additional one may be added to each side to achieve fliush hood to fender.

Mike,
Thanks for posting the AIM info. I have the '80 AIM and it does not show dimensions, but it does show them located as "approximate location".

That's it! That is exactly what I was looking for. Now that you gave me a page number I was able to find it. Thanks, dude.

My '73 has really bad hood alignment. These are shown to be for '74-'79. I'm assuming I could use them for my '73 for the same reason though?
