I've got a Crank sensor In my new Vortec 350, I left the tone ring in.
I'd like a box I can run off the crank sensor and bypass the mechanical and Vacume Advance portion in my tach drive dist. I'm useing her as my daily driver Any Ideas???
I don't see a box with a Vacume input... do those boxes keep you at full advance if your cruising??
I hope I'm making sence
There is a kit for LT1s that use a crank trigger and individual coil packs like an LS1. You could do something like that and just leave/modify the old distributor to drive the tach and the oil pump.

But don't those use the powertrain controll module inputs for TPS, ECT, MAP, knock sensor and more to change the advance curve???
Ir is it a stand alone unit????
I'll have to ask. I thought it was a stand-alone, but I could be wrong. I have a friend with one on a blown LT1 Camaro. He replaced the OptiSpark with it. I'll ask him for more details tomorrow.
His does still use input/output from the stock computer. He thought there are some that don't. His is made by LTCC. He thought MSD has one that just uses the crank trigger. Hope that helps. Sorry I forgot Friday.
I *think* what you are looking for is similar to MSD-8980 or 8981 timing computers. They replace the weights and springs inside the distributor. One is programmable and one has fixed advance curve. You can get real fancy with the programmable one. They are availabe at Summit and Jegs.
Thank you Z-man.... That's EXACTLY what I'm looking for AND it's ALOT cheaper than I expected. I'll be in Columbus, Ohio December 3rd-7th... Looks like I'll be stopping by Jegs & picking one up!!!!
