Apparently, my Father said when the mechanic stripped the engine, it loooked like it hasn't been rebuilt (previous owner claimed only 12,000 miles on rebuild).
So I would like to know what things we should look at? I was thinking maybe getting a different transmission, as I read when were having some problems before, that the Muncie can't handle a lot of power (is that correct?)

Well any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you,

i'm not sure what exactly what you are asking for....but if you are asking for what kind of wear should there be in the engine or what should you do to rebuild it....there are lots of good books out there on engine rebuilds...you should get one specific to your engine and familarize yourself with it. this will help sort out a lot of issues for you.
The easiest way to tell if it has been rebuilt it to measure the cylinder bore. If it is indeed .040 over, then it has been rebuilt. If not, one would certainly be suspicious...

The top of the pistons should be marked .040". By the way, isn't .040" a bit different? Isn't .030" or .060" more typical?
I guess I didn't make it clear, sorry, Were having it rebuilt by a mechanic, who also rebuilt our other engine (import). He works mainly though on american cars, and drag cars, so should be a good one.
What I meant is, what are things we should be interested in getting? My dad asked me today, because his helper (mechanic is out of town) said labor doesn't cost differently, only the parts (as in if we get higher end). Just wanted to know what things would be good to get, without going broke ...
