I've been wanting to install some nitrous in my car for a while, but i just can't fit a plate system under the carb.... not enough clearance between the filter and the hood. I only plan on doing a 75 shot. Anyone here have experience with the top shot kit? It seems like the best bet for the amount of power i want to add and the challenges that face me.

is that the one that attaches to the carburetor air cleaner stud? it looks really neat in the catalogs....
Yes, thats the one. It seems toooooo simple to install, and solves my clearance problem, so something must be up..... things usually never work out for me!
You have to be using mechanical secondary (double pumper) carb to use the top shot system. A vacuum secondary carb (quadrajet) will not work because the secondary air valve will not open fast enough and you will be spraying gas and nitrous on top of a partly opened air valve. Not good.
I have the 'TopShot' on my engine and it works great. The only issue is that you need a double pumper carb. The under the carb NOS shooters do not require this however.
Do you need a double pumper so the fuel flow keeps up with the added oxygen?
Just a ponder...
I've looked at them as well, but for the moment I'm thinking I'll keep the quadrajet
no, because the nitrous system carrys it's own fuel. the best way to do a vacuum secondary carb is to mount the activation micro switch under the vacuum linkage, this way the system doesn't come on 'til the secondarys are fully open! this type of set up slightly delays the system and helps reduce tire spin on dusty stree....... i mean slick tracks!
