Default Need advice on Fibreglass Side Pipe Covers

......with all this talk lately about side pipes, I couldn't stand not having them on my Vette, so I bought a set !!!!!.....as an early X-mas present to myself (which means my wife doesn't know about them yet )......

....I need recommendations on the paint system to use for the fibreglass covers.....

Also, if anyone has pics of their fibreglass covers, please post them

You just paint 'em the way you want - nothing special there.
Usually silver - then fill in-between the fins with black.
My friends are painted that way - never get hot enough to
bubble the paint, but you could go with heat paint to be safe.

What pipes did you choose ?

Thanks for that info.....I figured the covers would act as insulators and not get too hot and burn off the paint.....

I settled on the aluminized chambered exhaust reproduction kit available from Ecklers, etc.......I figured this would be best because I have stock manifolds......

BTW, how long do you think the paint will last?????

I had the fiberglass covers on mine for 2 years without any paint problems, and I didn't use high temp paint. Just silver and black. They didn't look bad at all. Not the same as chrome, but not $2000 either. I painted them all silver, then masked it off to paint the black. Take your time and don't rush it. You'll be happy. Here is a picture of the fiberglass one that used to be on my car. ( I sold them to another forum member)

I think the paint will last as long as it is applied properly.
My friends 73 covers have been painted for about 10 years, I think.

I chose to paint my fiberglass sidepipe covers the same color as the body. I put silver pinstripes on the ribs. Here are some pics....some pre and one post Project RamJet 502

I would paint them the same color as the body..i think they look good like that...especially on a dark color.

I have TonyQT's sidepipe covers on my '75 now and they look as good as they day I got them; no paint deterioration at all. The never get beyond warm. I think they're a great alternative.
