Default Muncie /st 10 id help..

I looking to buy a "project" tranny to rebuild and at the same time learn alittle how the Muncie/ST 10 works.
Its a 10 spline inputshaft.
The numbers i got from the guy who has it is:
824P069 : found on the maincase
GM 3846429 :found on tailshaft
3831707 : found on shifterplate on the tranny..
Any ideas on to what it is?

A quick Google search for a couple of those numbers leads me to believe that you have a Muncie, though I do not know (didn't look into it very hard) which one.

I don't think any Super T-10's were built with a 10 spline input. Some older T-10's had 10 spline input shafts but those had a cast iron case (or tailshaft housing). It sounds like an M-20 or M-21 Muncie (I believe the M-22 had a 26 spline input).

You can't rule out a Saginaw. I have a 78 and the cluster gear went a few years back. It is the original transmission and come to find out it's a close ratio Saginaw. It has the 10 spine input shaft. The next time I'm under the car I'll check out the numbers on it.

Good point, djgrelli. I'm pretty sure all Saginaw transmissions have cast iron cases. So that should be easy to identify.

One of the easiest ways to tell a Muncie from a T-10(except those odd Saginaws)is the cover for the shifter forks. At the bottom edge of a Muncie, it'll be straight across the bottom row of cover bolts. Borg-Warner T-10s have a "curve" on the bottom edge of the shifter cover. Also, all BorgWarners I've seen out of cars have had the "BorgWarner" name with their logo near the shifter mounting area on the left side.
